I LOVE YOU! Wow. I know there were a couple, but I didn't know there were quite as many.
I actually found a couple where he's trying to reach out to people and poking them (not just Olli, but also Judith) and they annoyed me even more. ;) I never realized he has the same acting choices for everyone (for example pointing the finger at Rebecca). He literally only has five things he can do and anger brings the finger out.
And people on YT are writing again that he has no chemistry with women and say most of that is due to his extreme overacting. They think the Chrolli storyline only worked because Thore felt uncomfortable getting too close to a man and therefore toned it down a bit. Although we know he used his bedroom eyes in later years, as well.
But I think any storyline where Thore isn't compelled to do his usual shenanigans should work for him. Which is the opposite of what I usually say, writers needing to write to an actor's strength and to how they behave naturally, support their natural beauty. Maybe they even try to do that for Thore (with the antics, horses, women), but it badly backfires. It's like giving Jana a slutty dress to wear, where you know she will overact even more than usual (putting fuel into the fire).

Whenever Thore makes a face, I think of Joey Tribbiani. Seriously. At least Matt LeBlanc was playing it for laughs, Thore actually thinks it makes him look more thoughtful/pensive/contemplative...who knows??
That nod with the pursed lips lets us know CHRISTIAN IS THINKING!!!! It is so bad!!
He has done some goofy faces that were funny, like that dancing scene with Luise at Gregor/Luise's wedding which was actually funny, but when its trying to convey an emotion, it just always falls flat.
When hes not trying so hard to ACT, then you really see how cute he can be, for example, when Olli offers him a massage as Olle the masseur and he jumps on Christian, you actually see Thore laugh in a really natural way that was endearing. Unfortunately, that doesnt happen often.
Jo also points a lot in his publicity photos. That drives me nuts.

I think we've actually made the same observation around here before. Like the "doctor" Joey played, pretending to smell a fart when he was supposed to look pensive. I think soaps are actually less make-believe and more truthful than US dramas. You rarely see small women standing on a box or men wearing shorts if they're just in the frame from the waist up. The show doesn't much to fake it (okay, tears), so it's really the actor that ruins the mood (Stephan Käfer comes to mind).
Jo's salute kind of drives me nuts. He's often too stiff, as if he's always on stage and performing. He's said once that he puts walls up, but that's why I really liked the outtakes from the Chrolli vlog, because there you could see the endearing natural way you mention about Thore.
On the show, Jo is supposed to perform, so I often don't mind his big theatrical style (which Marlene or Luise had too) because in hindsight I always realize it made me understand the scene/arc much better. But it's often not convincing/intimate when you watch it for the first time. But I guess you need that distance to your role. Thore always just plays himself.

i think thore just substitutes the finger for acting effort in general. it's what annoys me most about chrolli as a pairing, thore's overzealous gesticulatory acting!
even his face is full of gesticulation. and it stands out like a sore thumb on jo's good days. don't get me wrong, there are times when jo is mediocre at best, but he's proved he can master the craft of subtlety in his acting. but thore (as he demonstrated in the crying scene yesterday) can't do subtle on demand.
i think he does it sometimes by accident. but whenever he 'tries' to act it comes out like this. a jabby finger right in the middle of a scene.

I think that's even more apparent in the events videos. He's always gesticulating wildly with his hands, and on the radio with his voice! And I forgot just how often he looks grumpy.
I can never take the finger-pointing seriously ever again. I cracked up when I saw these pics, found by Joanna at GoDT. Thore didn't get the memo that it's "thumbs-up"!
